Introducing the Human Rights Due Diligence Tool for Humanitarian and Development Projects in Northwest Syria
This tool was created through a collaborative effort between the Syrian Legal Development Programme (SLDP), the Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre Link, and other key partners, to support the integration of human rights considerations in humanitarian and development work. Designed to assist organizations operating in Northwest Syria, it provides a practical framework for identifying, assessing, and mitigating human rights risks in projects.
By ensuring adherence to international human rights standards, the tool empowers organizations to enhance accountability, promote transparency, and safeguard the rights and dignity of affected communities. It serves as an essential resource for humanitarian actors, policy-makers, and businesses, guiding them in navigating complex legal and ethical challenges while fostering positive, rights-based impact in the region.
A special thanks to the Syrian Civil Society Networks Platform (SCNP) for its vital role in engaging civil society networks, coalitions, and NGOs in the consultations conducted throughout the production of this tool. Their involvement was crucial in shaping the tool’s development to best address the needs of the community.
This project was made possible with the generous support of Christian Aid link, the lead agency in the Blue Sky Collective Initiative, which is funded by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) as part of the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.
Together, these efforts aim to create a more responsible and sustainable humanitarian and development environment in Syria, prioritizing the protection of human rights in every stage of project implementation.
